Confirmation Classes
Confirmation preparation for young people is offered for youth ages 11 and up who have been baptized and are current members of the church. Confirmation is an important Sacramental rite by which individuals reaffirm for themselves the baptismal promise made on their behalf in infancy and make a commitment to appropriate adult ministry in the Church and in everyday life. The emphasis of confirmation preparation is on nurturing the individual and celebrating his/her response to the Spirit.
The curriculum we use in confirmation preparation is Grow in the Spirit, a program developed for the Diocese of Western Newfoundland by M. John Moores. The program has ten units:
- Holy Baptism - Belonging
- Holy Eucharist
- Commandments and Creeds
- The Holy Scriptures
- Prayer
- The Church
- The Organization of the Church
- Symbols, Vestments and Furnishings
- Seasons and Principle Feasts
- Stewardship
The confirmation class this year will have four daylong classes to take place on Saturdays, two in the fall, and two in the winter. The class will also have a residential camp weekend to be held at Lavrock Camp. Sunday worship is mandatory for all students, as are all four classes.
