Welcome to the Parish of the Ascension!
We are a diverse worshipping community, rooted in the
Anglican tradition, in a covenant with God, called to address the
needs of persons living in the Mount Pearl area. If you do not yet have a faith
community, or if you are visiting the Mount Pearl area of Newfoundland and Labrador, we
invite you to come and meet God in Jesus through the ministry of
this faith community.
A Summer Word from the Rector
Dear Friends in Christ,
Summer brings with it much expectation about out lives: Leisure, growth, reflection, and recreation. Many persons are enjoying time as family, in lessened work schedules, with new love and new found hope. This summer, as people engaged in ministry with the parish, I invite you to consider aspects of growth, reflection, and recreation.
Growth:
The select vestry is exploring how we can reach out to members of the community who do not currently have active involvement in the parish. September 26th and October 17th, in the context of the 11am worship service, vestry members will be inviting members to share their responses to the following questions, so that the parish can better deliver ministry. In addition to this, vestry members and our summer student will be contacting parish members with a phone survey. If you are between the ages of 35 - 49, do not be surprised if you get a call!
- Of all the things that you do with the Church of the Ascension, what's your favourite? Tell us why.
- Of all the things that you do with the Church of the Ascension, what do you enjoy the least?
- What words would you use to describe your relationship with the church?
- When you think of all the church's activities, in your opinion which ones are most important?
- When you think of all the church's activities, in your opinion which ones are least important?
- What types of activities would you be more interested in doing with the Church of the Ascension?
- Do you have specific ideas or suggestions for the church that you would be interested in participating in?
Reflection:
As this information is gathered over the next few months, it will be passed on to the Myx Meeting Centre, as that group will be compiling our data and results, in order to help the parish create a ministry plan for the next 3 - 5 years. Vestry will be examining this plan, and will assist in its implementation over this coming fall.
Recreation:
Perhaps the title of this segment should be re-creation. The parish has received permission from the Bishop and the Administration and Finance Committee of the diocese to begin the process of the refurbishing of the windows. This will cost close to $20,000 to complete this project. To date we have received $6,500 in funds designated for the windows fund. You as parish members are invited to give of your means in order to refurbish the windows. When we have the full amount, then we will start to replace the windows. It will take 20 families giving $1000 each, or 40 families $500 each, etc. When I get back from holidays, this will be one of my primary goals to have completed by the 15th of September.
As each of us enjoy leisure time this summer, may we also consider how God may be calling us to grow, reflect, and recreate.
May God Bless you all,
David
