Ascension News for September 20, 2017

Welcome Back Sunday is this coming Sunday, September 24!
You're all invited to our 11 a.m. Family Service with music by the Saints and Sinners.  Following the service, we will meet in the auditorium for fellowship, refreshments, and the sharing of information about our organizations and ministries!

*  The Senior Choir rehearsals have already resumed, and Junior Choir begins this evening (6 to 6:30).  Children eight years of age and older are welcome to join.  If you have any questions, please chat with Mrs. Kearley.

*  The Men's Service Club needs our help again.  The club is having a flea market/rummage sale on Saturday, September 23, from 8 to noon in the church's auditorium.  For the sale to be a success they 'need things you don't need but someone else might need.'  Books are acceptable, but please no text books, encyclopedias, or magazines, and no old TVs, stoves, fridges, or other large appliances.  You can bring your things to the ramp entrance on Thursday, September 21, and Friday, September 22 from 9 to noon1 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m.

*  On Sunday, during our fellowship hour in the auditorium, there will be an area set up where some vestry members will be available to explain pre-authorized givings, a method of giving that you have heard about but may not have fully understood.  They will also be able to take the necessary information should you be interested.

*  By now you have all heard about the Ride for Refuge taking place on September 30 - a ride, walk or run from Cape Spear to the Anglican Cathedral.  If you want to donate or join the team as a participant, go to (Canon David with be making the trek on his bike as in past years, so maybe you would like to join him.)

*  Important note for parents or guardians:  if the child or children in your care plan to be confirmed in 2018,registration will take place on Sunday, September 24.  Candidates must be eleven years of age by December 31, 2017.

*  Even though Godly Play has already begun, official registration will be on Welcome Back Sunday.

*  There are many families who are struggling financially to make ends meet.  We can help by contributing groceries to our food bank box located in our foyer.  This week they are hoping for crackers, cereal, and tinned soup.  Thank you for your continued help.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 6 and Counting Team # 4.

*  The Parish Network Visitors, a ministry that provides a friendly face to the shut-in members of our Parish, would like more volunteers.  In short, you would be assigned to visit one or more (your choice) parishioners for about an hour a month.  If you would like to be a part of this ministry or if you need more information, please call Shirley at 368-6180, Margaret at 368-1867, or Rev'd Lynn at 368-5693.

*  We are still looking  for Readers for the 11 a.m. services on Sundays.  It involves being called to do a reading about two, or not more than three, times per year.  If you are interested, please call Shirley at 368-6180 or email her at or Rev'd Lynn at 368-5693.

*  Several people have been asking about Bible Study for the fall.  The studies will be on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings and will start the first or second week in October.  More details regarding time and topic will be included in a later enews.

*  Vestry members, please remember the monthly vestry meeting is Thursday, September 28, at 7 o'clock!
Enjoy this beautiful autumn weather!

Hope to see you on Sunday,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
