Ascension News for October 4, 2017

Happy Thanksgiving Day indeed! I think R. W. Emerson sums up very well the many things for which we can be thankful.
I hope all of you have a great weekend with family and friends!

*  Just a reminder that we are anticipating your help with expressing our thankfulness to God by decorating our church on Saturday morning, October 7, from 10 to 11 o'clock.  Vegetables, preserves, baked goods, berries, cut flowers,... would be much appreciated.

*  Did you check with Mark (221-5352) yet about getting a ticket or two for our traditional Jiggs Dinner
which will be on Tuesday, October 10?  Only one sitting at 6 p.m. and only 150 tickets!  Take out dinners are available! Deadline for ticket purchase is today, Wednesday, October 4.

*  Those goods you will see in the church on Sunday will be sold on the evening of the Card Party.  So mark the calendar for Tuesday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and there will be the usual prizes.  Don't forget a few dollars for those mysterious grab bags, and of course you are being counted on to drop a few grab bags off to church prior to the Party.  Thanks in advance!!

*  This coming Sunday, October 8, will be the final day of Confirmation 2018 registration.  So if your child or grandchild will be 11 years of age by December 31, 2017, and plans to be confirmed in 2018, please make sure he/she registers by or on Sunday.

*  Special thanks to all those who are following through on the requests from the food bank for specific items. This week they are hoping to find tinned tuna, ham, chicken or turkey, Kraft dinner and pasta sauce in the church food bank boxes.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Counting team # 5, and Sidespersons' team # 1.

*  Mrs. Kearley is still on the lookout for new choir members, especially for the alto and men's section of the choir. She hopes to see new faces tonight at 7!!

*  Fall Bible Study begins today after the 9:30 Holy Communion, and the evening session will start on Tuesday, October 10, at 7 p.m. at the church of the Ascension (the evening classes will alternate between the Ascension and the Good Shepherd).  This fall the study is:  Living Ecological Justice - A Biblical Response to the Environment Crisis.  Come and see! We know you will want to stay! *:) happy

*  Here's a notice for all the youth of the Good Shepherd, St. Mary's and the Ascension!!  The opening session of the Joint Youth Ministry (ages 12 to 19) will meet at the Ascension on Friday, October 6, from 7 to 10 p.m.  If you need more information, please call your Rector.  Come and bring a friend!

Have a great weekend,
God Bless,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
