Ascension News for November 22, 2017

In reflecting on the Parable of the Talents as was read and expounded on last Sunday, one can't help but aim to discern the talent/talents that God gave to each of us.  In return, one should aim to use that talent to serve God in his/her lifetime.  There is a magnet on my fridge with words coined by Erma Bombeck, "when I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would have not a single talent left and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.'" Maybe these are words all of us should aim to hold before us on life's journey.
*  That brings us to the Seniors' Christmas Event being planned for Monday, December 4, hosted by the youth organizations of the Parish.  Many will be using their talents in preparing, organizing and serving a soup and dessert supper following the 6 p.m. Holy Eucharist.  If you are lucky enough to be 65 or over, you are invited.  The youth will also entertain you.  Door prizes and gifts too!!
*  Next Sunday is the last Sunday of the month and that means  'Family Service' time.  Come and enjoy the talents of the Saints and Sinners and sing along.  Fellowship hour will follow as usual in the auditorium.
*  There are many in our community who use your donations of non-perishable foods/items via the food bank boxes in our foyers.  For that, they are most grateful.  This week they are hoping for toilet tissue, tinned milk, and tinned tomatoes.
*  If you are planning to attend the Family Day (Stations of the Crib) on Saturday, November 25, from 10 to 1 p.m., be sure you sign up so we will know how many to expect.  We are hoping there will be many interested in exploring the Stations of the Crib project which will be used during the Advent journey.
Special thanks to all those who contributed to the success of our Fall Fair: the organizers, the donors, the servers, the buyers, the bakers, the knitters, the ticket sellers,  the cleanup crew, etc.  What an awesome event!  We will update you as to total raised when the final results are known.
*  Parish Network Visitors, your meeting is tomorrowNovember 23, at 2, at the home of Shirley at 67 Commonwealth Avenue.  New members are welcome.  Come and learn all about this wonderful ministry, or call Shirley at 368-6180 or Margaret at 368-1867, or Rev'd Lynn at 368-5693, to learn more about it.
*  Your Advent package is ready for pick up!!!! For your convenience, they have been placed alphabetically at the back of the church and in the side foyer.  Please take yours, and that of your family, friends, and neighbours, if they can't be present to pick them up.  Thanks so much for your help in this matter.

*  Dinner Theater tickets for sale!! Just drop by the church office from today until Friday, November 24, and you can pick up a ticket or two for $30 each which will include a roast turkey dinner with dessert and entertainment by our parish staff. (They will also be on sale this Sunday in the side foyer following the 11 a.m. service.)
*  With respect to the dinner theatre, Mrs Kearley is hoping you have some parish photos that show events over the past 40 years and even before.  She is making a slideshow for the event. *:) happy Don't worry, your photos will be returned to you, just put your name on the back.  Thanks for your help!!
*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' team # 2 and Counting team # 4.

*  Members of the Men's Service Club, you are reminded of your business meeting on Monday, November 27, at 7 o'clock.
*  There is still time to take a tag or two from the Advent tree, to make a purchase, and place it in the playpen in the side foyer.  The Brighter Futures Healthy Baby Club is so happy that it has been chosen for St. Margaret's Advent Outreach project.
That's it folks!
Keep warm & may God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
