Ascension News for November 29, 2017

As the 'hope' candle is lit on Sunday, let's hope that the aim of everyone will be to keep Christ in Christmas. How? An unknown poet pens it this way 'Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, forgive the guilty, welcome the unwanted, care for the ill, love our enemies, and do unto others as we would have them do to us.'

*  There are many ways in which the church is helping us on our Advent Journey:
        - Take time out for Quiet Wednesdays by attending Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. followed by Bible Study from 10 to noon titled: 'Silence and other surprising Invitations of Advent,' beginning today, November 29,
        - From noon to 12:30  on Wednesdays, journey the 'Stations of the Crib' in the church,
        - Borrow books from the Advent bookshelves in the side foyer,
        - and make sure you have a copy of the worship schedule for the Advent/Christmas Season so you can partake in worship services which are designed for the Advent Season.
*  The food bank continues to need our help in donating non-perishable items for those who have difficulty in making ends meet.  This week they are hoping for meatballs and Irish stew, tetra boxes of orange juice, and tinned fruit.  Many thanks for all you do!
*  Please pick up your Advent packages that have been organized alphabetically (at the back of the church and in the porch) to avoid having others brave the cold weather to deliver them to your door.  Thank you!
*  Much to the delight of the children and the young at heart, breakfast with Santa will be on Saturday, December 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the auditorium.  Breakfast is being prepared by Chef Roary MacPherson and the Men's Service Club.  Yes, Santa and Mrs. Claus will pay a visit at 10 that morning.  Loot bags and a Christmas sing along included!  Purchase your ticket soon - $5 single, or $10 per family.  Just call Denise at 765-8924!
*  If you would like to have flowers/memorials at Christmas in memory of your loved ones, either call the church office at 368-5693, or place a plain envelope with the information and the donation in the collection plate when you come to worship.  If you would like the names included in our Christmas bulletin, you must submit names by Monday, December 11.
A reminder to Seniors, 65+, that the Youth Organizations are organizing a Supper in your honour for Monday, December 4.  The soup and dessert supper will be served following Holy Eucharist at 6 p.m.  All seniors are welcome!!
*  In connection with the Senior Event, the Godly Play children will be giving a short performance that evening.  Parents will need to bring the children at 6:45 p.m.and stay with them until after the performance.
* And also, in connection with the Senior Event, we need help with a few more things.  First, thanks to all who have signed up to help with the desserts and soups.  However, we still need two pea soups, two turkey soups, one beef soup, and two chicken soups.  Please call the church office or reply to this enews if you can kindly help us in this regard.
*  The annual Christmas pageant will be on December 17, during the 11 a.m. service.  All children are welcome. Practice and role assignments will begin on Sunday, December 3.  For more information or questions, please call Doreen at 364-1454. Don't forget 'The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony & Carol Sing' will take place that same evening at 6:30.  Hope to see you there!
*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 3 and Counting Team # 5.
God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
