Ascension News for January 24, 2018

Last Sunday was Queen's College Sunday, and we were very pleased to have Dr. Rick Singleton, the Provost of Queen's College, deliver the homily at our morning worship.  In 1841 the College was founded and in spite of changes made to make it more relevant in a changing world, the 'goal and purpose to provide theological education, pastoral skills and spiritual formation for those preparing for ministry, remains the same.'
Let us continue to pray for Queen's College, reflect on how God is calling us, and help support the College financially.

*  Since next Sunday is the last Sunday of the month, we will be having our usual Family Service at 11 a.m. with the Saints and Sinners leading our uplifting hymns/songs, followed by a social hour in the auditorium.  Come and join us!

*  Canon Burrows is away at this time, fulfilling his role as National Partner on the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, which will be followed by meeting with the Bishop, clergy, and delegates of the Diocese of Niagara in preparation for their Synod at which time the election of a Bishop for that Diocese will occur.  Let us hold Canon David in our prayers.

*  Vestry members, the regular monthly Vestry meeting will be tomorrow evening, January 25, at 7 p.m.

Parish Network Visitors, your meeting is also tomorrowThursday, January 25 at 2 p.m. and we are meeting at Shirley's home on 67 Commonwealth Avenue - email: or call 368-6180.  New members are most welcomed.  Come and hear about this wonderful ministry to the shut-in seniors of our parish.  Or, if you need more information, please contact Rev'd Lynn or Canon David at 368-5693.

*  IMPORTANT REMINDER to the heads of parish organizations and groups - your reports for the Annual General Meeting are due by January 31, 2018.  Please submit them electronically in Arial font size 12.

*  The Christmas Memorial List is now available in both foyers of the church.

*  During the Candlemas celebrations on February 4, a dramatic story will be recounted during the homily at 11 a.m. worship.  Families are invited to bring a pillar candle from home to be blessed during the worship and then taken to your home to use during the rest of the Epiphany Season.

That's it folks for another week,
God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
