Ascension News for February 14,2018

For everything there is a season...... (Ecclesiastes 3:1).  There is the time to celebrate and there is the time to mourn... Lent is the time for reflection and transformation.  Let us look within and aim to change into what we ought to be.

*  Today is Ash Wednesday!  There will be Holy Eucharist at 9:30 a.m., and as well at 7 p.m.  Following the morning worship today, there will be a Parish Vitality Bible Study, as part of the Diocesan initiative on exploring the viability and vitality of our parishes.  (There will also be a study on Sunday, February 25, following the 6:30 p.m. service.)

*  The Ascension has made preparations for 'people to reflect on and enhance their spiritual lives' during the Lenten Season.  There will be a Lenten Study titled "Opening Doors in Lent,' after the Wednesday morning Eucharist, followed by Stations of the Cross at 12:15 p.m (starting next Wednesday),  Wednesday evening liturgies led by the different organizations/groups, and the availability of Lenten sign-out resources on the bookshelves in the side foyer.
*  For those who attended, I am sure you all agree that the Pastoral Care Workshop held last Saturday was extremely insightful and informative.  Special thanks to all who made it possible.  Please check out the Parish's facebook page to read and see more details of the event.

*  A package containing your Lenten Card, your charitable tax receipt for 2017,  a letter from the Rector, and an envelope and pledge sheet for our Memorial Hymn Sing,  is waiting for you in the back of the church.  Please remember to pick them up, as well as those belonging to your family and neighbours.

*  The Memorial Hymn Sing will be on Sunday, February 25, at 11 a.m., so if you like to use this means of remembering your loved ones, please submit your requests and donation in the envelope provided by Friday, February 23.

*  Please don't forget the PWRDF luncheon next Sunday, February 18, after the 11 a.m. service.  Archdeacon Charlene will be our guest speaker, talking about her trip to Ghana.  A delicious lunch awaits you for just $9 per adult, and $20 per family - a means by which you can support the outreach ministries of PWRDF.  If the team hasn't called you yet to pre-book tickets, you can obtain one by calling Fronie at 769-8430.

*  Godly PLay lesson for next Sunday, February 18, will be The Good Samaritan; and starting February 25, the planned story is the first in the three sessions of the Faces of Easter.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 6, and Counting Team # 8.

*  Just a reminder that this Lent our Archdeaconry is involved in a 'Home Again Furniture Bank Lenten Campaign - Seat with a Heartbeat.'  The focus of Home Again is that people in need can receive gently used furniture and other household items.  It is hoped that you will give your support for this campaign through financial donations throughout the Lenten Season.  You will hear more details soon.

*  On the subject of people in need, this week the food bank is hoping for tinned vegetables, tinned pasta, and tinned beans.  Thanks for all you do to help others.

By the way, Happy Valentine's Day!

May God Guide you on your Lenten Journey,
Jean (on behalf of Ascension)
