Ascension News foe March 21, 2018

They took Palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting “Hosanna”. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord...  John 12:13

*  Today there will be Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Lenten Study at 10:15 a.m. where our special guest will be from 'the Gathering Place.' Then at 12:15 p.m. we will have the Stations of the Cross.  The Lenten Evening Liturgy at 7 p.m. will be led by the Parish Network Visitors.

*  This evening, after the Evening Liturgy, feel free to join us in making the palm crosses.  If you haven't done this before, there will be many there to show you how.

*  Many of you like to remember loved ones at Easter by donating to the church.  If you plan to remember them in this way, please place your donation in a plain envelope with the appropriate information and either drop it off at the church office or place in the collection plate.  If you want names included in the Chimes insert on Easter Sunday, please have your "In Memoriam" given no later than Monday, March 25.

*  Special thanks to all who contributed to the youth bake sale which enabled them to raise $521 toward the cost of attending CLAY.

* Everyone likes to do something special during his/her Lenten journey.  How about you or your family bringing a new bathroom towel to the 10 a.m. Family Service on Good Friday?  These towels will be given to the needy via the Home Again Furniture Bank.

*  Parish Network Visitors, please do not forget your meeting tomorrowMarch 22, at 2 p.m. at Shirley's home on 67 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl.

Vestry members, there is a meeting for you as well.  Your monthly meeting will be tomorrow evening, Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m.  This will be the last one prior to the AGM, so please make every effort to attend.

*  With respect to the vestry, how many of you have decided to become part of this important governing body of the parish as outlined in last week's enews and in the Chimes? If you are interested or if you would like more information, please contact one of the clergy or Tom (current people's warden) at 368-0656.

*  The food bank recipients send thanks to all contributors.  This week they are hoping for crackers, cereal, and tinned soup.

*  Next Sunday, March 25, the Godly Play story will be 'The Crosses.'  Following that session, there will be no more until April 15, that is after Easter Vacation.  The Godly Play teachers wish you all a very blessed Easter.

*  This is an early notice of the GPS 2018 taking place at St. Lawrence Parish, Portugal Cove from April 26 to April 29.  It's a residential conference for youth and accompanying youth leaders.  Youth leaders' registration will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 26, and sessions for 'youth and leaders' will register at 5 p.m. on  April 27.  (If any youth doesn't wish to sleep over, it is possible to register for daytime programming.)  As an outreach project Care Packages for Homeless Youth will be prepared; therefore, in the meantime, you may like to collect personal care items from your parish family to add to these care packages (toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.)  If you would like more information, please contact Canon Burrows or Rev'd Lynn.

*  Please mark your calendars for the annual 'Fellowship of the Least Coin Service' which will be held on April 6 at 7 p.m. in St. James United Church, 330 Elizabeth Avenue, St. John's.  They will be grateful at that time with any coins you have collected or if you would like to make a donation.  This Fellowship is a component of the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada and donations provide grants for impoverished women around the world.  Special music and a social time will follow the service.  If you would like more information, please contact Inez Penney (237-7100) or Susan Sheppard, (722-7100).

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 5 and Counting Team # 5.

God Bless,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
