Ascension News for April 4, 2018

Consider this quote from Martin Luther
: "Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not only in books alone but in every leaf of springtime."

*  Special thanks to all who made Holy Week and Easter services so inspiring:  Canon David, Rev'd Lynn, all retired clergy, Mrs. Kearley and the choirs, and all who contributed in any way to the worship.  We were indeed blessed!

*  A reminder to the Men's Service Club that their corporate communion (and breakfast) will be on Sunday, April 8, at the 8:30 a.m. worship.  Due to this event, there will be no Ascension cafe that day but it will resume on Sunday, April 15.

*  A reminder also that on Sunday at 2 p.m. will be the parish's Annual General Meeting in the church's auditorium.  The Report and Financials are available at the back of the church.  If you have picked one up, please bring it with you to the meeting as there may be no more available at that time.  Come and get an update on last year's events and be present with your parish family.

*  Thanks to those who have contributed to the Home Again Furniture Bank Lenten Project "Seats with a Heart Beat" which has raised $855.00 to date.

*  With respect to 'reaching out to others' the food bank continues to be grateful for your weekly donations to the food bank box.  This week they are hoping for tinned vegetables, tinned pasta, and tinned beans.

*  Vestry members are reminded of their extra special vestry meeting tomorrow evening, Thursday, April 5, at 7 o'clock in the multi-purpose room.  All members are asked to make a special effort to attend.

*  Since we're on the topic of meetings, all counters, especially captains and new team members, are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, April 12 at 7 o'clock in the multi-purpose room. The aim is for all involved in counting to have a consistent approach to counting to facilitate record keeping at the office level.

*  Did you remember to mark your calendars for the Fellowship of the Least Coin Service on Friday evening, April 6, at 7 p.m. at St. James United Church on Elizabeth Avenue, St. John's?

*  Please remind the Godly Play attendees that there will be no Godly Play on Sunday, April 8, but it will resume again on
April 15.

*  Want to celebrate further the Resurrection of our Lord?  On Sunday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the choirs of the cathedral plus choir members from around the Diocese are taking part in a Diocesan Festival of Lessons and Carols for Easter.  Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this special service.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 3 and Counting Team # 7.

That's it folks!
God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
