Ascension News for April 11, 2018

Next week (April 15 - 21) is National Volunteer Week.  It is said that 'volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart.'  Let's applaud all those who so willingly give of their time and talent at church, in our community, and in the world at large.

*  For Ascension Cafe participants - good news!!!  The Cafe will resume on Sunday, April 15.

*  ACW Ladies' Night has been set for May 7!  That 's the evening ladies enjoy a delicious roast beef dinner served by our wonderful Men's Service Club.  To make the night even more delightful, the Sweet Forget-Me-Nots will entertain us!

Tickets will be available on April 15.

*  Thanks going out once again to all those who give to the food bank via the boxes in the foyers; recipients are always most grateful.  This week they are hoping for tinned tuna, ham, chicken or turkey, Kraft Dinner and pasta sauce.

*  In order to facilitate the recording of information at the office level, all counters (especially captains and new members) are asked to attend a meeting tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

*  Next Sunday, April 15, Godly Play will resume - all Godly Play teachers hope that everyone had a blessed Easter.

*  For all you card players out there, the Mount Pearl CLB #4507 is having a spring fundraiser card party on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the church auditorium.  Just bring $6 and your own cards and baskets for an evening of fun and fellowship!  Tea and coffee will be provided. Cash prizes!!

*  Congratulations to all the newly elected and appointed at the Parish's Annual General Meeting last Sunday.  It was wonderful to see so many attend to reflect on the events/ministries of the year and to help make decisions for the future of the Parish.   May God Bless you as you begin your important roles as voices of the people who elected you to be the governing body of the Church of the Ascension.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 4, and Counting Team # 8.

*  The Jewish Community Havura's Annual Holocaust Remembrance will take place on Sunday, April 15, at 3:30 p.m. in the Science Lecture Theatre in the southwest corner of the Science Building at Memorial University.  This year's event will feature a multi-media presentation, Were the House Still Standing.   All are welcome.  Parking is available in lot 15B adjacent to the Music School, and lot 1A in front of the Arts Building (off Elizabeth Avenue.)

*  Note well! This week I saw crocuses poking their heads through the mulch in my back garden - a true sign of Spring .

God Bless,

Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
