Ascension News for June 13, 2018

Good Morning!

Enjoy the joys and beauty of God's handiwork that this season brings!

Sunday, June 17, is Father's Day.  On that note, Happy Father's Day to all dads, all about-to-be dads, all who take the place of dads, and all granddads. May you have a wonderful day with your family!

*  We have been having computer problems at the church office for the last little while, so if you are trying to communicate with the office via email and not getting any response, please call the office instead (368-5693).

*  The monthly "Caregivers Education and Support Program" held by the Seniors' Independence Group will continue during the months of June and July.  If you are caring for a loved one at home, you might find this program quite helpful.  The dates are Tuesday, June 19, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and Tuesday, July 17, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is being held at the Park Place Community Centre in Mount Pearl.

*  A note for the card lovers out there - the parish will be hosting card parties in the auditorium during the month of July.  Not sure of the dates yet, but thought you would like to know in advance.

*  Congratulations are in order for Mark and Phyllis Leyte.  The Rt. Rev'd Dr. Geoffrey Peddle and the members of the Cathedral Chapter have announced that they are among the recipients of the 2018 Bishop's Award of Merit.  This award will be presented at the Bishop's Dinner on November 9, which is being held in conjunction with Diocesan Synod.

*  The Spring clean up will be tomorrowThursday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. weather permitting. We are looking forward to seeing lots of rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc. and, of course, people to use them.  Refreshments will be provided by the CLB.

*  Paul Lane has sent the attached email to pass along to the parishioners regarding the Food Bank Collection Drive.  A community food drive is being planned for Saturday, June 16, as our local food banks are in very short supply and cannot meet the needs of those in our community.  All the information you will need if you would like to volunteer in this drive is given in the attached email. Thanks in advance for your support.

*  You may like to mark your calendars for Sunday, July 1, as we will be hosting The University of Redlands Chapel Singers at our 11 a.m. service.  This choir comes from Redlands University in California and is in the province participating in Podium which is Choral Canada's Biannual National Convention.  They will sing several selections and will be treated to lunch by our parish and choir.  By the way, the director is Dr. Nicholle Andrews, who is also Mrs. Kearley's niece.)

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 1 and Counting Team #1.

*  This Sunday, June 17, will be the last day for the Ascension Cafe until the fall.  Special thanks go out to Mark and Phyllis Leyte and others who have helped in the Cafe throughout the year.

This will be the last Enews until the fall.  May you have a safe and enjoyable summer.  Thanks to all who tune in each Wednesday for the updates, the notes of thanks, the calls for help, the reminders, etc.

May God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
