Ascension News for October 31, 2018

Don't forget, Daylight Saving Time ends this coming weekend.  Set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 4, at 2 a.m. or you are going to be an hour early for church.
*:) happy

*  There is going to be a very special service this week! On Friday, November 2, is the All Souls' Service when we remember our loved ones that have passed on.  If you would like to have your loved one's name read out during the service, please write the name in the book provided at the back of the church.  Following the service, there will be a fellowship hour hosted by the Parish Network Visitors.

*  Next Sunday, November 4, the evening service at 6:30 p.m. will be the Act of Remembrance.  Our Mount Pearl Company of the CLB and members of the Legion will be in attendance.  At this service, our senior choir will present a homily in song, singing four anthems: God's Peace, We're a Fellowship of Believers, Be still my Soul/You Raise me up, and How Deep the Father's Love for Us.  This is a moving service indeed in observing Remembrance Day.  Remember to wear your poppy.

*  A special Advent project is being launched on November 16, the Feast of St. Margaret.  The confirmation class along with the congregation will be partnering with the John Howard Society to donate personal care items for men in need who reside in and around our community.  'St. Margaret's Boat' which will be located in the side foyer will be used to hold all items.  These items will be presented to the John Howard Society at a later date. Sunday's Chimes will have a list of possible items to donate.

*  On November 5  (that's next Monday), the ACW will host their annual 'afternoon tea and card game.'  Ticket cost is $10 but you may like to bring a little extra as there will be the $2 grab bag table, gently used jewelry and handbag table,
as well as a homemade baked goods' table.  So call your friends and arrange to have a great afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship.

*  For those who donated to Ride for Refuge and didn't give an e-mail address to receive a receipt, the receipts are now available at the front entrance.  By the way, it is wonderful to note that a total of $4824.00 was given for PWRDF - thanks to your kind support.  That amount will be matched 4:1 by the Federal Government for the Canada Food Grains Bank.

*  While we are on the subject of giving, the food bank would like to see tea bags, sugar, and peanut butter in the food bank box when they come to pick up the donations this week.   Thank you so much!

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team #3 and Counting Team #5.

*  Just a reminder that there are still tickets available for the 'Bishop's Dinner and Bishop's Award of Merit' being held on Friday, November 9, at the CLB Armoury on Harvey Road.  Details were given in Sunday's Chimes and in last week's e-news.  If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, please call Elizabeth at Synod Office at (709) 576-6697.
Enjoy an extra hour of sleep this weekend! *:) happy
God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
