Ascension News for November 7, 2018

Sunday, November 11, is Remembrance Day.  We, once again, will commemorate the sacrifices of those Canadians who fought in World War I and II, and all those who have given their lives in armed conflict throughout the years in the name of freedom and peace.

*  As you know, our church's mission is 'reach out to others', and we have aimed to do that in many of our projects.

On November 16, the Feast of St. Margaret we are launching such a project again.  This Advent our Confirmation class and the congregation will be partnering with the John Howard Society to donate personal care items for men in need who reside in and around our community.  All items donated will be put in St. Margaret's boat that will be located in the side foyer for distribution to the Society at a later date.

*  As you all know, our Fall Fair (admission $1) starts the weekend of November 17, with a morning coffee from 9:30 a.m. to noon ($6).  There will be the usual tables of dry goods, baked goods, preserves, crafts, Christmas things, books,.... You will also be able to enjoy a moose burger for just $5.  Of course, the success of the Fair depends on your generosity in donating items for the various tables. Items can be dropped off at the church from 9 to noon during the week, and on Friday evening, November 16, at 7 p.m. during set-up time.

*  A roast beef supper on Tuesday, November 20, is also a part of the fair.  Tickets can be purchased/booked by calling the church office - $20 for adults, $10 for children under 12. One sitting only at 6 p.m and takeouts from 5 to 5:30 p.m.  Only 150 tickets and the deadline is Friday, November 16, so call today and book a ticket or two.  Thanks, as always, for your support.

*  The Fall Fair wrap up event is a card game on Tuesday, November 27, at 7 p.m. with the usual cash prizes.  So gather your friends, ready your cards and baskets, and make sure you have $6 in your purse.  Enjoy the evening!

*  In observance of Armistice Day, the office will be closed on Monday, November 12.

*  The food bank is always in need and appreciates that there are so many that respond to that need.  This week they are hoping forcrackers, cereal, and tinned soup.  A monetary donation to the Hamper Fund is equally appreciated.

*  The All Souls' Service was once again a very moving service.  Special thanks to all organizers and participants, especially the choir for the inspiring hymns and also for their help, along with the Parish Network Visitors, in providing the tasty treats for the fellowship hour.

*  For those who are interested in the Synod proceedings, there will be a 'livestream' viewing of some of the proceedings on November 9 and 10.  You will be able to watch Synod from this link:  Synod Webcast (Coming Soon) | Anglican Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland & Labrador  The Agenda for the Livestream will be posted on that site and you will be able to tune in to watch.

*  As you have seen, our nursery is now located in the back of the church.  If volunteering with this ministry interests you, please contact Rev.'d Lynn (682-8500) for further details.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 4, and Counting Team # 6.

*  Attached to this e-news is a poster that was sent to me by Paul Lane.  It is a poster telling about the Community Food Drive taking place on November 17.  Please read and see how you can support this initiative.  Thanks so much!

That's it folks for another week,
God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
