Ascension News for November 21, 2018

At this time of the year especially with the onset of cold weather and the need of winter clothes, warmer homes, hot meals, and with Christmas just around the corner, there are many who wonder how they will make ends meet.  We are called to serve - to help others in need.  There are many ways to answer that call - through our food banks, through helping with the Christmas hampers, by giving a helping hand to the sick and the lonely... being ready to share our time, talent, or treasure in the best way we are able.  As is said in Matthew 25:40-45, '...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' (NIV)

*  Special thanks to all who helped to make our Fall Fair a success - the sellers, the buyers, the moose burger makers, the tea /coffee servers, the bakers, the donors who contributed items for the tables, etc.  It was a great event!  You will hear of the total funds raised when all the events are over.

*  Of course, that brings us to the final event, the card party on Tuesday, November 27.  The game starts at 7 p.m. with the usual prizes. All you need are friends, $6 to play, and your own cards and baskets.  Hope to see you there!

*  The food bank is always in need and is always grateful for your generosity.  This week it is hoped that tinned vegetables, tinned pasta, and tinned beans will fill our food boxes.

*  For those parishioners 65 and older, we have our annual Seniors' Christmas Event on Monday, December 3.  As usual, there will be Holy Eucharist at 6 followed by the soup and dessert supper in the auditorium.  Not only is this event hosted by the youth organizations of the Parish, but the youth will also provide the entertainment.  Door prizes and gifts too! Come and celebrate!

*  The Parish Network Visitors will hold their meeting tomorrow afternoon, Thursday,  at 2 p.m. in the church's multi-purpose room.  Anyone interested in this ministry is invited as well.

*  Most of you know, either by Wednesday's enews, the Chimes, or by word of mouth, of the special Advent project - St. Margaret's Boat,  the project that involves donating personal care items for men in need through a partnership with the John Howard Society.  These items (men's socks, hats, mitts, deodorant, razors, shampoo & conditions, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shower gel, etc.) can be placed in the 'Boat' that is located in the side foyer of our church. Thanks in anticipation of a generous response.

*  Please remember to pick up your Advent package which includes your 2019 envelopes, your Advent folder, your quarterly statement, and a letter from the Rector.  They are arranged alphabetically and placed in the side foyer, and the front entrance to the church.  Many seniors brave the cold weather to distribute those packages that are not picked up.  So please, lighten their load by picking them up the next time you are at church.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 6, and Counting Team #8.

*  Next Sunday, November 25, is the last Sunday in the month, so we will be having our Family Service at 11 p.m. followed by a social hour in our auditorium.  Come and enjoy the uplifting music and song of our 'Saints and Sinners', and enjoy the fellowship of your parish family after the service.

Enjoy your day,

God Bless,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
