Ascension news for November 28, 2018

Next Sunday, December 2, is the first Sunday of Advent.  As the 'hope' candle is lit on Sunday, let's hope that the aim of everyone is to keep Christ in Christmas.
How do we do this?  An unknown writer pens it this way "Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, forgive the guilty, welcome the unwanted, care for the ill, love our enemies, and do unto others as we would have them do to us."

*  On Monday, December 3, the Seniors' Christmas Event takes place beginning with Holy Communion at 6 p.m. followed by a soup and dessert supper in the auditorium.  The Youth organizations are organizing the event, and also providing the entertainment for the evening.  It would be appreciated if some of you would assist by providing either a pot of soup or a dessert.  If you would like to help, please take a label (from the tree inside the main entrance to the church) indicating what you would provide and putting your name and phone number on the sheet provided.  All donations can be dropped at the auditorium between 4 and 6 p.m. on Monday, December 3.  Thanks in anticipation of your help!

*  Also, with respect to the Seniors' Event, the Godly Play children that are doing a short performance at the Event, are to be brought to church by 6:45 p.m. Parents/guardians will need to stay with them until after the performance.  Thank you!

*  This Saturday, December 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. will be Advent Family Preparation Day.  The leaders will be working with families to share the Advent story through the use of Legos, a craft, and a story.  Photos will be taken next to the Advent wreath.  You can also bring a friend!  Please let us know if you are attending by calling the office.  Come and

*  The Christmas Pageant will take place on December 23 at the 11 a.m. service.  All children can participate.  Practice and role assignments will begin on December 2.  Please see that your children/grandchildren attend Godly Play in the coming Sundays so they can become involved in this event.  If you have further questions, please call Doreen at 364-1454.

*  Advent Bible Study, entitled 'God With Us' will take place at 10 a.m. on December 5, 12, and 19, followed by the Stations of the Crib.  All are welcome!

*  The food bank thanks you for your continual help.  This week they are hoping for tinned tuna, ham, chicken, turkey, Kraft dinner, and pasta sauce.  By the way, the food bank boxes, if you are not aware, are in the side and front foyers. They are white wooden boxes with lids - just making sure you know where to place your food donations.

*  Once again, please remember to pick up your Advent packages that have been organized alphabetically (at the back of the church and in the foyers) to avoid having others brave the cold weather to deliver them to your door. Thank you!

*  Much to the delight of the children and the young at heart, breakfast with Santa will be on Saturday, December 8, in the auditorium  More information will follow soon.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 1, and Counting Team # 1.

*  As in other years, we are again sponsoring 'Adopt a Family for Christmas.'  The Parish helps families in need by ensuring that they have a complete Christmas dinner along with a few gifts for the children in the home.  This means that a Parish family can assist a family in need by providing the necessary things for a Christmas dinner as well as the children's gifts.  If you would like to participate in this program, either alone, or by sharing a family with others, please contact the Church office (368-5693) and leave your name and telephone number.  If you want further information, please contact Georgina Short at or 682-7928.

Special thanks to all who helped with the 'Roast Beef Supper' on November 27.  It was a wonderful evening - an awesome dinner, excellent service, and wonderful fellowship.

That's it for another week,
God Bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
