In ancient days, tomorrow, February 21, was known as the Feast of the Sun, to celebrate its beauty and its power.  Do you know that it is said that each meter of the sun's surface produces energy equivalent to 70 000 horsepower? Also, powered by the sun, our family of planets is at this moment circling around the center of our galaxy at a speed of 633 000 miles per hour. Wow! Isn't that marvelous?   How wonderful is creation! Let's always thank God for all the marvels of the universe.

 *  We're continuing to collect for the Community Food Sharing Association.  On Sunday, February 24, Mr. Walters will be present at our service to receive the donations.  Thank you for your wonderful support!

Parish Network Visitors, please remember that our regular monthly meeting and AGM will be this afternoon at 2 at Shirley's home on 67 Commonwealth Avenue.  Hopefully, we will have some new members to welcome.  You can call Shirley at 368-6180 or Rev'd Lynn if you would like more information.

Ascension Cafe will be closed on March 3.  The Anglican Church Women and the Men's Service Club will be having their installation and corporate breakfast.

*  I presume you have already marked your calendars for the PWRDF Luncheon which will go ahead on March 10 immediately following the 11 o'clock service.  A delicious meal of macaroni and cheese, rolls, caesar salad, and even ice cream will be served - just $10 for adults and $5 for children (gluten free option).  If you aren't called to ask if you want a ticket, you can always phone the church office to book tickets.  Thanks for your anticipated support of PWRDF.

*  If you haven't done so already, and if you are interested in attending the Pastoral Care Workshop on March 2, from 9:45 until 2 p.m. Please remember to register by Monday, February 25 (call the office or use the sign-up sheet in the church foyer).  Final plans are being made and the number attending must be known in order to prepare lunch and for setting up the auditorium. ( All you need is a non-perishable food item for the foodbank!)

*  If you wish to contribute to Queen's College Appeal, you can do so by using the special envelope for the donation available at church, or donating online at

*  Just a reminder that Ash Wednesday is March 6, and it is the day that the Lenten Bible Study 'The Way of Love' begins following the morning Ash Wednesday Service.

*  Are you collecting your old towels or blankets to help the youth group with their Lenten outreach project?  They are collecting them to donate to shelters that look after our four-legged friends.  You can drop them off at the church from March 10 to 24.

Thanks for your anticipated help.  Also, our next group meeting is Friday, February 22 at the Parish of the Good Shepherd.  On that evening, Kim Thistle-Murphy will be our guest and she will share her personal story about deafness and being visually impaired.  Come and bring a friend!

*  Next Friday, March 1, is the date for the World Day of Prayer, at St. Peter's Church at 7 p.m.

*  Sunday, February 24, is the last Sunday in the month so we will be having our regular Family Service at 11 followed by a social hour.  There will also be Holy Eucharist on that day at 6:30 p.m.

*  Are you familiar with the Men's Service Club (MSC)?  A lot of men do not know other men in the parish which makes them feel disconnected.  We are inviting you to attend one of our meetings (we meet on the first and third Monday of each month at 7 o'clock).  We would like you to join us for a cup of tea and treats; we want you to enjoy a game of cards or darts with the men in your parish family; we want to chat and find out what things you would enjoy doing.  As a result, you will find new friends, and you will feel more deeply connected to your church.  Of course, we do assist the Parish with fundraising events when the need arises, but fellowship is our main focus.  An added bonus - we have potlucks to which our partners/spouses are invited so more connections are formed.  Come and see, and hopefully, you will decide to stay!

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 5, and Counting Team # 5.

*  Lent is quickly approaching.  As usual, on Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday) which is March 5, the Men's Service Club will be serving a meal of beans, bologna, bread rolls and pancakes.  Just $10 per adult and children under 12 eat for free.  Tickets must be purchased or booked by Sunday, March 3 (there will be no unbooked tickets at the door).  Tickets can be purchased/booked by contacting Tasker King ( or368-5676, or by any member of the MSC.  Get your tickets soon, as there is a limited number!

Extra treat for card players!!  Following the supper there will be a card game.  Bring your own cards, and baskets, and for just $6 you can enjoy a game of cards with your friends.

We are being subjected to some really cold temperatures.  Keep warm!  Stay safe!

God bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
