While thumbing through some Lenten readings, I came across this quote by Mother Teresa, which I thought you might like, since the focus of our recent Wednesday Lenten study and evening service has been 'prayer.'
'The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, and fruit of service is peace.'

*  The Wednesday Lenten Study ''The Way of Love - Practices for a Jesus Centered Life' continues today after the 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion.  The session today looks at the gift of wisdom through the practice of reading and hearing scripture.  There is still room for more; it doesn't matter if you haven't attended the first two sessions.  This is followed by the Stations of the Cross at 12:15 and Lenten Evening Service at 7 p.m.

*  The youth are still collecting blankets and towels for the four-legged furry ones.  You can bring them to the office during the week from 9 to noon or when you attend church on Sunday.  The next Youth Group meeting will be on Friday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd.  If you would like to learn how to make delicious homemade bread, that is one of the items on the agenda for that evening.

*  If you plan to attend the annual Bishop's Fish and Brewis Fellowship dinner taking place at 6 p.m. on April 1, please book/purchase your $12 ticket from Tasker King (368-5676) or any member of the Men's Service Club on or before Friday, March 29, as there will be no un-booked tickets sold at the door.

*  Donations are gradually accumulating on the shelving unit in the church's side foyer - donations to help the Single Parent Association of Newfoundland.  As a reminder, we are hoping for lunch items such as granola bars, juice boxes, puddings and fruit cups, packages of cheese and crackers, etc.  On April 7, a representative from SPAN will be present at our 11 a.m. service to receive our donations and to share their story.  Thank you so much for supporting this Lenten project.

*  Of course, our food bank continues to be in need of non-perishable items.  This week they are hoping for crackers, cereal, and tinned soup.  All items are gratefully received!

*  Don't forget the 'Clergy on the Floor Campaign' which is hoping to raise awareness and funds for the Home Again Furniture Bank.  On April 26, members of the clergy will be aiming to sleep on the floors and pews of the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and they would appreciate your support. (Special envelopes are in the pews and at the church entrances!)

*  Some of you were inquiring about the Evening of Country Gospel with "The Secrets," well, you can purchase a $20 ticket at the church office or online @The  The Ascension Senior Choir & Emma Bursey will also be entertaining you at that time.  Doors will open on March 30, at 6:30 p.m. with the start time at 7 p.m.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 3 and Counting Team # 1.

*  Many of you have not picked up your Lenten package which includes your income tax receipt.  They are waiting for you at the back of the church.

*  Don't forget - the Parish's Annual General Meeting will be on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m.  If you would like to be more fully informed about your parish and have your voice heard in decision making, then please make it a point to attend.

Rev'd David will be returning on March 22 following his Council of General Synod meeting in Toronto, and a brief visit with his parents.

*  Such a great turnout for the Men's Service Club on Monday evening - wonderful fellowship and an awesome meal of moose stew!

Blessings on your Lenten journey,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
