Mothering Sunday is this coming Sunday, March 31.  Let us always remember to pray for, care for, and show respect for Mother Church that nurtures us, and Mother Earth that sustains us.  Let us also continue to thank God for all mothers, as well as those who mother us, that the love and care they give may be reflected in the way that we show our love and care for others.

*  The collecting of donations for The Single Parent Association of Newfoundland (our Parish Lenten Outreach Project) continues until April 7.  Thanks to all those who continue to bring recess items, as well as sugar and flour, and place them on the shelving unit provided for that purpose in the side foyer of the church.  On April 7, during our 11 a.m. service these donations will be given to the Project Coordinator with SPAN, who will share their story. (Check the picture at the end of this email and you will see the need to fill the empty spaces with donations.)

*  Don't forget the 'Secrets Concert' which will host a country gospel concert on Saturday, March 30, at 7 p.m.  Other guest performers will include our Senior Choir and Emma Bursey.  You can get a $20 ticket from the office, at the door, or online at

*  Sunday, March 31, is the last Sunday in the month, and as usual we will have our Family Service followed by a social hour in the auditorium.  There will also be Holy Eucharist that evening at 6:30 p.m.

*  Thanks to those who always check to see what is needed at the food bank each week and donate accordingly.  This week they are hoping for tinned soup, tinned vegetables, and tinned pasta.

*  Deadline for purchasing tickets for the Annual Bishop's Fish and Brewis Fellowship Dinner is this Friday, March 29.  There will be no unbooked tickets ($12 each) at the door, so if you need a ticket please contact Tasker at 368-5676 or, or any member of the Men's Service Club.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 4 and Counting Team # 2.
*  Drawing your attention once more to the Clergy on the Floor Campaign!! To raise awareness and funds for the Home Again Furniture Bank, members of the clergy plan to sleep on the pews and floors (whichever they find more comfortable I presume) of the Anglican Cathedral on April 26.  Would you like to sponsor a clergy member?  If so, there are special envelopes in the pews, or you can sign the sponsor sheets at each entrance of the church.

*  Were you at church when the Giving our Thanks and Praise Program was introduced?  A focus group of this program is meeting and is providing the opportunity for others to join them on April 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a light lunch provided.  You will have an opportunity to share your faith journey and also to make suggestions on how to implement this program at the Ascension.

*  I've been asked by those organizing a fundraiser for the Home Again Furniture Bank to include the following message:
We're having a card party...but not the kind you might expect!  Get crafty and join us for a fun night of card MAKING in support of Home Again Furniture Bank. Local Stampin' Up!  Demonstrators will guide you in making five beautiful, hand-made, greeting cards.  No experience needed!  The evening will include prizes, draws and snacks.  The event will be held on Monday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension auditorium. Tickets are $30.  For more information, or to book tickets contact Elizabeth Barnes or Kim Pike or

May God continue to be with you as you continue on your Lenten Journey,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
