Next Sunday is Passion Sunday, which inaugurates a special season within Lent known as Passiontide.  During Passiontide, the last two weeks of Lent, the focus is on Jesus' last days on earth, the time when we meditate on the Passion story.  In many churches, purple veils are cast over crucifixes beginning on this day - purple representing repentance in the system of church colour symbolism.  This covering helps to set the mood of Passiontide.  May God be with us all as we travel with Jesus toward his crucifixion.

*  In case you had planned to donate an item or two to the Single Parent Association and haven't yet, you will have to do so by Sunday, April 7 as that is when Elaine Balsom, Executive Director, will be by to accept our donation.  Items needed are: diapers, wipes, recess items, sugar and flour.  Please place them on the shelving unit in the side foyer.  Thanks so much!

*  You must all have heard about the devastation and loss of life caused by Cyclone Idai.  PWRDF is responding to the appeal.  Please pray for the agencies on the ground, including the PWRDF partner organizations.  If you would like to help financially, envelopes are in the pews and at the church entrances.  Please mark the envelopes CYCLONE IDAI.

*  Your children or grandchildren may be anxious to hear about the Lavrock Summer Camp.  Girls' camp will be from July 8 to 12 and a coed camp from July 15 to 19 for ages 8 to 13 years.  All the usual favorite activities will be included.

Application, medical form, and payment must be given when applying (if someone is requesting funding from ACFC, then a note stating that must be included). You can obtain an application from the Diocesan Synod Office, at the church office, or by email at

*   Just jogging your memory regarding the Giving our Thanks and Praise Program focus group taking place on April 6.  Also, Clergy on the Floor Campaign taking place April 26. The other one is the card making party in support of Home Again Furniture Bank taking place on Monday, April 8, at 7 o'clock.  (Details of all these were given in last week's enews and the Chimes.)

*  Many parishioners like remembering their loved ones at Easter with the 'Easter Flowers - In Memoriam.'  If you would like to do so, please use the Giving Thanks envelopes.  Make sure you list the name or names of the departed so they can be included in the memorial booklet which will be printed for April 28.  Deadline for submission of names is Friday, April 19.

*  Maybe you are hoping to be part of a special ministry at church, and maybe one that doesn't include meetings!  Well, this may be ideal for you! There is a need for new members to become part of the Altar Guild.  That means you would be on a schedule every five to six weeks to assist with the setting up and the cleaning of the altar for Sunday and Wednesday services.  If you are interested, please see Elizabeth Barnes or Rev'd Lynn.

*   Thanks for your continual help toward the food bank!  This week they are hoping for tinned beans, Kraft dinner (or other brands), and tinned tuna, ham, chicken, or turkey.  If you would like to give a monetary donation to the food hamper fund, that is greatly appreciated as well.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 5 and Counting Team # 3.

*  Notice for the Parish Network Visitors:  your next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Shirley's home on 67 Commonwealth (368-6180).  We are hoping to have some new members join with us in this important ministry, a ministry that involves visiting the elderly and shut-ins in their own home or place of retirement.  You would be assigned a person to visit by the clergy, a visit that usually lasts about an hour.   Pray about it, and read more about in the booklet that is available at church. You may also contact the clergy for further information.

*  The next evening service will be on Palm Sunday, April 14.

*  Our Lenten Study this week, 'The Way of Love,' will focus on 'REST.'  We will explore the meaning of Sabbath and the variety of ways to keep it.  Why not come and join us for a session!

That's it folks,
God bless you all,
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
