Ascension News for June 19, 2019

Last Sunday, June 16, was Trinity Sunday.  Trinity Sunday is a moveable feast celebrating the Holy Trinity, the Christian belief that God is Three Persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - yet One God.  Some have tried to give human illustrations for the Trinity, such as H2O being water, ice and steam, all different but all are H2O.  No illustration is perfect but we can see that there can be three different aspects of a single unit.

*  You may want to mark your calendars for the flower services:  Kenmount Road Cemetery will be on Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. with St. Thomas' Church officiating; Forest Road Cemetery will be on Wednesday, July 17, at 7 p.,m. with St. Michael's officiating.  If weather is not suitable on either of these Wednesdays, it will be postponed to the following evening at 7 p.m. If both evenings are not suitable, the flower services will take place indoors in the named churches at 7:45 p.m.

*  Synod Office and the Resource Centre started its summer hours on Friday, June 14, and will resume regular hours the week of September 9.  They will also be closed on: Monday, June 24, Discovery Day; Monday, July l, Canada Day, and Wednesday, August 7, Regatta Day (or the next suitable day).

*  Thanks to all who supported the inside yard sale this past Saturday -  the table renters and the organizers.  The next sale will be on Saturday, June 22, same place, same time. Tables are $20 each and $10 for an extra one. To book please call Brian at 682-1844 or Rosalind at 221-8400 or email

* Thank you for last week's donations to our food bank boxes.  This week they are hoping for tinned fruit, tea bags, and sugar.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 5 and Counting Team #6.

*  There are many opportunities for learning and discernment at Queen's College this coming fall.  The Faculty of Theology has a wide selection of courses and programs available on campus and on line.  If you are interested, please access this link to their website Current Students | Queen's College to obtain further information.  (Or you can click on the site given below.)  You may also contact or call (709) 753-0116.

*  Members of the Men's Service Club are setting up a table to sell items at the Inside Yard Sales each Saturday.  Of course, the items to sell are donations from parishioners.  If you have things you would like to donate,
you can drop them off at the auditorium by the old office any morning.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Summer officially begins on Friday, June 21!  Let's hope we have many sunny, warm days ahead!

God Bless,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
