Welcome back!  I trust you had a relaxing and refreshing summer.  Once again I am sending you the enews which I hope will help you keep in touch with your parish family as the various events/organizations/socials resume after the summer break.

*  Next Sunday, September 15, is Welcome Back Sunday!  Following the 11 o'clock Welsh Eucharist, there will be a fellowship time in the auditorium when you can become informed of our organizations and ministries.  Registrations for various groups will be available, and, of course, there will be refreshments and a BBQ lunch!  Come and see!

*  You were informed earlier in the year of the Mount Pearl Ministerial Community Supper.  The first of this kind will take place today, Wednesday, September 11, at Park Place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Church of the Ascension will host this one, and the chefs will be Ashley Richards (Coffee Matters) and Roary MacPherson. (Admission is free! Children must be accompanied by an adult.)

*  Choir practices are resuming soon!  Junior Choir practice will resume Wednesday, September 25, from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. (Youth nine years and older are welcome to join.) Senior Choir will resume Wednesday, September 18, at 7 p.m.  Of course, new members are always welcome.

*  Much to the delight of many for sure, Ascension Cafe will resume September 22, following the 8:30 a.m. service.  It's a great way to make friends as you enjoy homemade goodies.

* If your child or grandchild will be eleven years of age by December 31, 2019, and hopes to be confirmed in 2020, registration will take place from September 15 to October 13.  (You will receive further information at the time of registration.)

*  The annual 'Ride for Refuge' will take place on Saturday, October 5, at 8:30 a.m.  Rev'd David and the Anglican EastNL team are already getting in shape to ride/walk from Cape Spear to the Anglican Cathedral.  Each year this event has raised between $4000 and $6000 for PWRDF initiatives.  More information is available from the team and also in your church bulletin.  Sponsor sheets are available in the church foyers.  Please make cheques payable to the Parish of the Ascension - PWRDF - Ride for Refuge.

*  The food bank continues to rely on you to help with groceries for those who find it difficult to make ends meet.  This week they are hoping for tinned beans, tuna, ham, chicken, and turkey, and Kraft dinner (any brand actually).  Food bank boxes are located at both church entrances.  Thanks again for all your help.

Evening Services at 6:30 p.m. will resume on Sunday, September 29.

*  Important notice for all youth!!  Youth Group will start on September 13 at the Church of the Good Shepherd at 7 p.m.  Come and bring a friend!

*  A global Season of Creation  is being observed from September 1 to October 4 every year (as per a resolution passed by General Synod 2019).  Relative to this resolution, for the next month the focus will be on relevant themes as symbols of water, oil, gardens, and fire are examined - all in relation to sustainable environmental stewardship.  If you have a good news story related to how the environment is being nurtured and tended in meaningful ways, please make it known and, with your permission, it will be shared with the parish.

*  A Parish Network Visitors' Retreat has been set for Sunday, September 29, following the 11 a.m. service.  During that time we will gather with Father John Courage for lunch (provided by the parish) and an afternoon of retreat and reflection.  If this ministry is of interest to you, you are welcome to come to the retreat.  Please let Rev'd Lynn know if you are interested in attending.

That's it folks!  Hope to see you on Welcome Back Sunday!
God Bless,
Jean (for the Church of the Ascension)
