Autumn blooms!

I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers - the cool, refreshing morning air, the brilliant color of the trees, the beauty of autumn flowers, and tasty garden fresh vegetables.  Emoji

All Souls' Service will be on November 2 at 7 o'clock.  If you wish to remember a loved one and have his/her name read out at the service that evening, please write the name in the book at the back of the church.

*  Rev'd Bellamy has written his personal reflections on Synod 2019.  If you would like a copy, you can pick it up at either of the church vestibules or from the office.  There is also a pastoral letter from Bishop Peddle on Marriage Equality that is found at the church entrances - a letter you may view online if you so wish at

*  Next Sunday, October 13, we celebrate Harvest Thanksgiving, and for that Sunday only there will not be Ascension Cafe as is usual after the 8:30 a.m. service.

*  With respect to Thanksgiving Sunday, we will be decorating the church for the occasion on Saturday, October 12, from 10 to 11 a.m.  We are hoping several of you will be present to decorate and/or to bring vegetables, preserves, baked goods, berries, cut flowers, and anything else you deem suitable to reflect our thankfulness to God in this very visible way.  Thanks for your anticipated help.

*  On October 18,  we will be having our traditional Jiggs Dinner.  Tickets ($20 for adults, $10 for children under 12) must be booked or purchased by October 13 (only 150 available).  There will be one sitting only at 6 o'clock!  Take outs are available and must be picked up between 5 and 5:30.  Get your ticket soon to avoid disappointment.

*  The goods given to decorate the church will be sold on Tuesday, October 22, during the Card Party which starts at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  All you need will be $6 for admission, and your own cards and baskets.   Prizes as usual!  Come and enjoy!

*  If you are wondering about what's going on with our youth group these days, just visit the parish facebook page and see some pictures of events from last week's get-together. The highlight of the evening was learning the art of tie dyeing.

*  Confirmation registration will continue until October 13.  So if you know of a youth 11 years or older by the end of 2019, and he/she wishes to be confirmed in May 2020, then a registration form is available from the office during the week or in the side foyer on Sunday morning.

*  The Ride for Refuge took place last Saturday, October 5.  Kudos to Rev'd David for riding from Cape Spear to the Cathedral in just one hour and ten minutes in the midst of ice pellets and rain.  To date, $2210 has been raised!! Donations are gratefully accepted up to October 31.  Thanks for all who supported such a worthy cause!

*  Thanks also for all who contribute to the food bank via the boxes in our foyers.  This week the items hoped for are peanut butter, crackers, and cereal.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 3, and Counting Team # 6.

*  The next Sunday evening service will be October 27, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.

How many of you like to sing? Mrs. Kearley, our organist, is hoping to have some new members for both of our church choirs.  Being able to read music is not a requirement - just the joy of singing is all that is needed. Interested?  See Mrs. Kearley soon!

*  A student from Queen's College is launching a campaign, Thanksgiving Toasty Toes,  from October 7 to October 31.  She is collecting donations of new warm socks and personal care items in aid of THRIVE Community Centre.  There is a box for this purpose in the side foyer if you would like to help toward this worthy campaign.

That's it for another week,

God Bless,
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
