Ascension News for December 4, 2019

A quote to ponder by St. Teresa of Calcutta:  'This Christmas when Christ comes, will He find a warm heart? Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving others with God's own love and concern.'

*  The Christmas Hamper Event is in progress, and naturally the church once again is looking for the help of parishioners to fill the hampers.  There is an Advent tree at the entrance to the church with tags indicating the items needed. If you would like to help, please take a tag and bring your item to the church office from December 9 to 13 from 9 to 1 p.m. or to church on December 15. If you, or a group of people, would like to finance a complete hamper, please contact the church office (368-5693) and leave your name and number. Thanks in advance for your support!

*  Spread the word that Santa is coming to the Ascension on Saturday, December 14.  The day begins with breakfast being served from 9 to 10 a.m. Following breakfast, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit.  There will be a sing-along, and loot bags for the children.  The cost is $5 per person to be paid at the door - one breakfast per person please!

*  You might like to mark your calendars for December 22, because on that evening at 6:30 p.m. there will be the Community Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and the Lessons and Carol Service.  You can light a bulb in memory of a loved one, or to honour a special occasion for a minimum donation of $5 per bulb, per person or occasion. Forms are available in both foyers. Please submit the names, along with the donation, on or before December 15.  Come and enjoy the carol singing as well as the hot chocolate that follows the event.

*  The Hamper Fund has been dwindling quickly as more and more people are coming for help during tough times.  If you would like to help replenish our Fund, there are envelopes available for  cash donations next to the Christmas Hamper tree. (If you choose to help, be sure to include your envelope number and name on the envelope.)

*  Many parishioners like to give a Christmas memorial during the Advent Season.  If you would like to give a memorial, please place your donation along with the appropriate information in a plain envelope and place it in the collection plate.  If you want the names included in the Christmas bulletin insert, the deadline is Monday, December 16.

*  The food bank is in need of tinned ham, tuna, chicken or turkey, Kraft Dinner (various brand names), and pasta sauce.  If you can donate a couple of these items to replenish their supply, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again!

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 4 and Counting Team # 5.

*  Your advent packages which include your 2020 envelopes are in the back of the church awaiting pick-up.  It would be very kind of you if you could take yours, and maybe those of your friends and family.

*  Godly Play will finish this year on December 22 with the Christmas Pageant at the 11 a.m. service.  It will resume on January 12.  The teachers are wishing all the Godly Play children a  very happy and safe Christmas.

*  There will be an evening service on Sunday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m.

*  For those who attended the Seniors' Christmas Event, I am sure you will agree it was a lovely event indeed.  Thanks to all those who made the event possible - the organizers, the donors of soup and desserts, the Godly Play children, the Confirmation members with their parents, the special guests who entertained, the CLB who helped clean up, and of course we can't forget Santa and Mrs. Claus who made the evening complete.  Lots of pictures on the parish's facebook page!

That's it for another week!
May God be with you on your Advent Journey,
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
