Next Sunday, December 15, is the Third Sunday in Advent - represented by the candle of 'joy.'

Psalm 144:15 says 'Joyful indeed are those whose God is the Lord.'

Apparently, it has been said that if we are joyful, we cannot hide it.  It will shine in our eyes, in our look, and in our conversation.

*  Christmas is only two weeks away!  I am sure the young ones and the young at heart are looking forward to Saturday morning, December 14, as it's 'Breakfast with Santa'  in the auditorium.  The breakfast ($5 per person) will be served from 9 to 10 a.m., following which Santa and Mrs Claus will visit.  Then there will be a singalong, and loot bags for the children.

*  There's a community supper this evening (Wednesday, December 11) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Park Place, hosted by the Church of the Good Shepherd.  Great food! Wonderful fellowship!  All are welcome!

*  If you plan to give a Christmas memorial, and you want the name/names included in the Christmas bulletin, the deadline is Monday, December 16.

*  The Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony along with the Lessons and Carol Service is one of the highlights of the season and it's happening on December 22 at 6:30 p.m.  If you want to light a bulb in memory of someone or to honour a special occasion, you can pick up a form at either of the vestibules and with your donation ($5 per person or occasion remembered) place it in the collection plate or take it to the office before December 16.  Come and enjoy the carol singing and the hot chocolate!

*  On Saturday, December 14, at 2 p.m. the CLB Regimental Band will be playing Christmas carols and other holiday favourites at the CLB Armory.  Santa may even pay a visit.  Admission is free; however, a donation to the Happy Tree is always welcomed. You may also like to bring a non-perishable item for the local food banks.

*  Of course the food bank is always in need.  This week they would like toilet tissue, tinned milk, and tinned tomatoes.  Thanks again for your generosity.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 6 and Counting Team # 7.

*  Many Advent packages are still resting at the back of the church.  Please pick them up soon, either on a Sunday or during a week day from 9 to noon.

On Sunday, December 15, there will be costume fittings for the pageant, as well as a short rehearsal, following the 11 a.m. service.

*  There is still time to help with the Christmas Hamper project, as the deadline for donation drop off is Sunday, December 15.  If you want to help, you can take a tag from the Advent tree which names a item needed for the hampers, or you can give a cash donation.  Thanks so much for your support!

*  The Men's Service Club will be holding their annual Christmas Pot Luck Supper and Social with spouses and friends on Monday, December 16.  We will meet at 6 p.m. for supper at 6:30 p.m.  Any member of the parish is more than welcome to attend - just bring a main course dish to contribute to the pot luck as dessert will be provided.

May God continue to bless you on your Advent Journey.
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
