Ascension News for February 4, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Some of you have inquired about the Ascension E-news since I haven't sent any for the past couple of weeks.  Well, my computer died and is not able to be fixed.  I am hoping to be able to purchase another in the near future.  However, for this week, I decided to write from the church office.

So here are a few important notices for you in case you weren't able to make it out to church during the nasty weather this past Sunday:

-  The Frosty Festival Ecumenical Service will be held on Sunday, February 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ascension.  A reception will be held in the auditorium following the service.  A free-will offering will be collected in aid of the Mount Pearl Community Meal.  All are welcome!

- The Godly Play teachers would like you to know that they will be doing the 'Story of Jacob'  this coming Sunday, February 9.

_  It's that time of the year again when all groups/organizations are asked to submit an annual report.  Please ensure that the leader or a designated person in your group will write and submit a report by Friday, February 7, 2020.

- The Food Bank is in need of tinned meat balls and gravy, Irish stew, 1-litre tetra boxes of orange juice, and tinned fruit this week.  Please remember to pick up an item or two when you do your grocery shopping this week.  Thanks, as always, for your kindness.

- Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 6, and Counting Team #7.

-  February 23 has been designated as a Mission Sunday in our diocese.  To mark this special Sunday. the Parishes of St. Michael's, the Ascension, the Good Shepherd, and St. Mary's will be worshiping together at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church on Craigmillar Avenue.  You can still bring your regular church envelopes, as all envelopes will be sorted and sent to the appropriate congregation.  The Open Offering from that service will be given to the Community Food Sharing Association NL.

-  For those who have difficulty in climbing stairs, we are happy to inform you that the Lift is now fully operational.

-  The Nomination Committee for Vestry is looking for individuals to assist with serving in the leadership of the parish.  Maybe God is calling you to engage more deeply with your faith community and to assist the parish as it moves forward. If you are interested, please speak to one of the wardens.

-  Some church envelopes still rest in the back of the church and wait for pick up.  Please remember to pick up yours and feel free to pick up envelopes of people who live in your area.  If you would prefer to be set up for a pre-authorized giving, pick up a pamphlet, fill out the requirements, and drop it in the office.  Thanks so much!

That's it folks!  I hope to get back in the regular routine of sending enews on Wednesday very soon.

Stay warm!  This cold weather will pass!
Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
