Ascension News for March 10, 2020

This year for Lent we have turned our attention to the environment for our annual discipline. In that connection, this week the theme in relation to our interaction within creation is 'use of water.' As stewards of God's creation, we do indeed need to be concerned with our use of water.  It has also been shown that "economic growth and environmental protection can and should go hand in hand."

*  Our Annual General Meeting has been rescheduled and is now to be held on Sunday, March 22. Many of you already have the annual report booklet. The Parish's financial statements are also available for review. If you so desire, you can pick them up at the office or after services on Sunday.

* As you know, the parish is aiming to reduce paper usage. In that regard, it is important to check the bulletin boards at both of the church's entrances as notes and reminders will be placed there.

* Jessie Green has been our parish treasurer for the past nine years. Normally a treasurer's term is no more than six years. Her lengthy stay was with the consent of the bishop. If you, or someone you know, would like to undertake this important ministry, please inform the church office or one of the wardens.

* The food bank continues to need groceries to help those who find it difficult to make ends meet. This week they are hoping for toilet tissue, tinned milk, and tinned tomatoes. Thanks so much for your help!

* Captains, please remind your teams: Sidespersons' Team # 5 and Counting Team # 4.

* As you know, last week we had our PWRDF Luncheon which was a great success. If you would like to further help the work of PWRDF, there are PWRDF Emergency Envelopes in the pews. Some of you may want to donate to the PWRDF emergency fund for Australian wildfires. You can donate to that appeal by going to and choose Emergency Response. Or you can send a cheque indicating the Australia appeal on the cheque and mail to PWRDF, 80 Hayden Street, 3rd floor, Toronto, Ontario, M4Y 3G2

* In light of the concerns around the Coronavirus and church worship and events, Bishop Peddle recommends the recent statement from our Primate and encourages the practices in her letter to be used in our Diocese. To read the Primate's statement, click here -

* The next Community Supper is tomorrow,Wednesday, March 11, at Park Place. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. All are welcome!

* This is a reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11, from 10:15 a.m. to noon, following the morning Holy Eucharist, our 'Opening Doors' will welcome Rev'd Robert Cooke, Rector of St. Mark's Parish. His focus will be on 'Mental Health/Suicide.' Then there will be 'Stations of the Cross' which begins at 12:15 p.m. for those who wish to attend. At 7 o'clock there will be the Lenten Evening Liturgy.

* Tonight, Rev'd David continues with the Lenten Study 'Jesus Shaped Life' beginning at 7 p.m.

May God continue to be with you on your Lenten Journey.
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
